You get desensitized to 1/2 ton truck sizes when they are everywhere around you and treated like “entry level” products. Whose first car or driving experience was a full size truck (Southern Oppos especially)? I learned in an F150 long bed, and learned manual in a Wrangler.
Can you believe vehicles this big are constant top sellers? By the way, that Tacoma in front of the Tundra is still bigger than most Crossovers. I’m starting to see how weird ‘Murica is. These aren’t even Detroit makes at that!
Anyone still not seeing the point to a midsized truck segment? Thankfully we are getting a Ridgeline and Santa Cruz as our new“compact” trucks. Frontier, Tacoma, Colorado, and Canyon for midsize. F150, Silverado, Sierra, Ram 1500, Tundra, and Titan for fullsize. Then Ford, Chevy, GMC, and Ram keep going up at least another two or twelve classes. Ridiculous!

I don’t understand the point of a full size pickup that’s mostly cab.

The tundra is big even for a 1/2 ton.
My first vehicle was a Silverado.

My first car was a 2500 Suburban. Driving that thing for awhile has made it so I can park normal-sized cars in my sleep.
Good to have a truck around. I only had cars during college and law school, and I just felt so limited.

I learned to drive in a 1980 F150 (4 speed stick) and a ‘97 E150 conversion van.

Among my first vehicles driven was a 1-ton Chevy with a welding bed. I didn’t own it and I didn’t drive it often, but it was the vehicle in which I learned to back trailers - mirrors, only, of course. I also learned how to weld on the bed for that truck.
As for the first vehicle I ever drove, I can’t remember. I lived in the country. I drove a tractor long before I drove something with a closed cab.

My first driving experience was with a few hafl ton trucks, a ton of HD trucks and full size SUV’s exclusively. Today I shuffle through a cars on a weekly basis but I still struggle to parallel park a car, but give me a truck and it’s no problem.

My dad has a 2014 Tundra CrewCab. When parking the girlfriends 09 RX35p next to it, her car reaches from the hood to the back of the cab... thats it... forget the 6' bed behind the cab.

When we shopped for our Taco every salesman said, ‘Are you sure you don’t want to try the Tundra?’ I think a lot of people got pushed into them because of the space inside..
I came from a 86 Toyota so our DCLB is already crazy big.

I learned simultaneously in an 86 F150 single cab, long bed auto, and an 88 manual Celica. Miss both all the time.

Southern oppo here. My first driving experience was in a first gen Ford Expedition, which was (and still is) based on the F-150. So I guess you could say that my first driving experience was in a full sized truck.

My first driver was my dad’s F-350. Dual rear wheels, 8ft bed, 6.9L diesel (naturally aspirated). Drove it to school everyday for about a year before I could afford something of my own.

I learned to drive in fields and backroads in north Mississippi. This was in my (then my dad’s) F-150.

I learned to drive in my Dad’s ‘74 Chevy Cheyenne C10, and until I purchased my own car it was mine to use for the most part. I was surprised by how fast that truck was for it’s time. Being 2WD not 4WD I really learned car control come winter time. I got so used to throttling through the snow using oversteer that when I got my Honda accord I was shocked that FWD did not handle the snow as well as I had been led to believe. I have 1500 Dodge Ram at the moment, and after driving an International 4300 box truck across the country I hopped in my truck and it felt so tiny, and small and low to the ground. Everything is relative.

I learned to drive on a Ford Expedition. Hated it from day 1. Probably why I only like small cars to this day.

My dad made me practice the parallel parking part of my drivers test in his dual cab tundra, it took me more then a few tries.

My first car/truck was a 1970 el Camino which was actually longer than my dad’s 2002 Chevy 1500 regular cab.
